Last Solo LP By Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes Set For Release

Late rapper Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes of TLC fame will have her final solo album released on November 11 through Mass Appeal Entertainment.

The 12-track project, titled “Eye-Legacy,” will feature collaborations with Miss Elliot, Chamillionaire, Lil Mama, and Bobby Valentino.

The first single, “Let’s Just Do It,” featuring Missy.

The songs on “Eye-Legacy” featuring unreleased vocals from Lopes.

Previously, the TLC star released a solo album, Supernova, that was only released in Europe and a failed union with Death Row as a solo artist–under the name N.I.N.A.–resulted in no material being released.

“We hope people understand the message in Lisa’s music and appreciate her as not just a member of TLC, but as a solo artist as well. This album is Left Eye’s musical gift to her fans and adds to the beauty of her legacy,” the Lopes family commented in a statement.

The fiery rapper long hoped for a solo career as successful as her her collaborative work with TLC had become. At one point Lopes even challenged her group mates, T-Boz and Chili, to all release solo albums the same day and to determine the winner by album sales.

Lopes died in April of 2002 in Honduras during a car accident. She was only 31. A documentary on her last days wad produced by VH1 titled “The Last Days of Left Eye.”—LaTisha Robbins

Arrest in DC Gay Bash Case????

Thanks 2 Rod 2.0 Beta:

Detectives are reportedly "very close" to making an arrest in the case of Tony Randolph Hunter, the black gay Maryland man who died after a brutal street attack near a gay bar in Washington DC. This should be interesting: Sources close to the investigation say the suspect(s) will reportedly claim an outrageous "gay panic" self defense.

The 37-year-old Hunter and a friend were severely beaten on September 7 near Eighth and N Streets N.W. The two were headed to the BeBar, the popular gay club. Four men attacked Hunter and his friend and police initially classified this as a hate crime.
The Washington Blade:

Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner Alexander Padro said two people familiar with the investigation told him police were in the process of obtaining a warrant for the arrest of one suspect that was identified by an informant.

Padro said he was told that the suspect confessed to killing Hunter, but the suspect insisted he acted in self-defense after Hunter made advances toward him.

"I’m very concerned that this guy is trying to use the gay-panic defense,” Padro said. “It’s ridiculous, and I hope the police don’t fall for that kind of nonsense.
"

When questioned about the situation, police spokesperson Tracy Hughes issued a brief statement and declined further comment.

"No warrant has been issued,” she said. “However, there is a person of interest in the case. Detectives are continuing to follow up on several leads.
"

A severe blow to the head left Hunter in a coma and lingering ten days in a vegetative state. The Clinton, Maryland man died on September 17th.

Investigators withdrew the hate crime classification after determining "there was insufficient evidence of anti-gay bias and that robbery appeared to be the motive for the crime." At least one of Hunter's associates tells Newschannel 8 he believes anti-gay bias was the motive, and, indeed, this outrageous "gay panic" defense would seem to prove the anti-gay bias. The four men initiated the attack against the Hunter and his friend. No words were spoken. What could these four men have possibly feared? Once again, it seems that gay men are re-victimized in their death.

missing love

missing love.

The romance that comes with it all. The smiles of getting a text saying "I miss you." Those late night calls that last till 5 in the morning. You coming by just to make sure I'm ok. Giving me a present just for the heck of it. Waiting to have sex because you respect me. Picking me up so we can get a bite to eat. A walk in the park just to talk. Sneaking a kiss when my friends arn't looking. Holding hands in the movie theatre. Realizing we have something in common. Cracking up at something funny. Remembering the date time and second we first met. Saying something inspiring. Taking me back after I did something stupid. Being there when I need a shoulder to cry on. Washing the dishes because you know how much I hate it. Kissing my hand. Holding the door. Rubbing my feet. sigh...

I think blogger ShawnQt was thinkin what has been on my mind alot lately

Jennifer Hudson in the Advocate Magazine

Jennifer Hudson Takes Back Her Spotlight

Whether you first fell in love with Jennifer Hudson on American Idol or it took you until her Oscar-winning turn in Dreamgirls to jump on the bandwagon, there's no denying that the sassy girl with the big voice has a huge gay following. Now, after years of waiting, Hudson is getting back to what she does best... with her self-titled, debut album.

By Clay Cane
An Advocate.com exclusive posted September 26, 2008
Chances are, if you're a fan of American Idol, your love affair with Jennifer Hudson began long before she took command of the silver screen with her Oscar-winning turn in Dreamgirls. For me, it was her performance of Elton John’s “Circle of Life” on season three. Her performance was riveting and it was clear the Illinois diva with the big afro (who misses that afro?) and annihilating voice would be a star. In the years since, Hudson has gone beyond the stars, but she hasn’t forgotten her gay fans along the way.

Jennifer Hudson has become a fabric of the gay community in the way of Judy Garland, Barbara Streisand, and Diana Ross. In only a few short years, Hudson has garnered a Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild award, Oscar, and the honor of being Carrie Bradshaw’s assistant! With all the accolades, it’s hard to believe that the Midwestern girl who made Effie White an Oscar-winning character is just releasing her highly-anticipated, self-titled, debut album on Tuesday.

“It was a year and a half process of recording,” says Hudson. “I got to work with amazing people like Missy Elliot, Diane Warren, and also led by Clive Davis.” Her first single, “Spotlight,” is already a top-ten hit on the Billboard dance charts and the buzz for the new album is foreshadowing another award-winning success.

The former Advocate cover girl couldn’t let an album release go by without chatting about the music, her commitment to the gay community, and more.

Advocate.com: What can your gay fans expect from the new album?

Jennifer Hudson: My gay fans can expect just me, Jennifer. The gay community has always accepted me so I can only give more of that. Big notes, big vocals!

Did you have your gay audience in mind when making the album?

I did! We actually did a lot of songs that were for my gay fans. Not everything made the album. We didn't want to leave anybody out. We tried to make sure we had something on there for everybody, most importantly, the gay community.

Ludacris, one of the guest artists on your album, has had anti-gay lyrics in his music. How do you reconcile that with your gay fan base?

You know what, I have never heard of that. I was never aware of that at all. To be honest, I don't know what to say to that. What's interesting is I think the gay community would love him! [Laughs] Like I said, I never knew that.

How do you explain this fascination gay men have with Jennifer Hudson?

I've been trying to figure it out for years! [Laughs] I don't know, but I love it and I'm glad. I can only remain true and try to do whatever I'm doing so I can hold onto that. But, I still don't know -- I wish I could figure it out!

Is there anything challenging about having such an aggressive gay following?

Living up to their expectations. My thing is if the gay community thinks I am fierce then I must be fierce! The expectations are high and you can't half-step, it has got to be right.

Janet Released from Island Def Jam Records

After just 14 months on Island Def Jam, Janet Jackson announced today (Sept. 22) her departure from the label. According to Jackson's publicist, the label agreed to dissolve their relationship with the artist at her request.

After a long stint with Virgin, Jackson inked a deal with Island in July 2007 and released her label debut, "Discipline," in February. When album sales failed to meet expectations, the singer expressed dissatisfaction with IDJ, first telling SOHH.com that the label "stopped all promotion whatsoever on the album" after releasing the first single, "Feedback."

Earlier this month, she hinted about potentially severing ties with IDJ to Billboard, stating, "I can't say if we'll be working with them in the future. I don't know what the future holds between the two of us."

Executive produced by Jackson and her boyfriend, Island Urban president Jermaine Dupri, "Discipline" debuted at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 in March with 181,000 copies sold. But it has shifted only 415,000 copies in the United States so far, according to Nielsen SoundScan, and spent just 14 weeks on the chart.

Now, Jackson "will have autonomy over her career, without the restrictions of a label system," reads a statement from her team. "Always known to break new ground and set trends, Janet's departure from Island makes her one of the first superstar artists to have the individual freedom to promote their work through a variety of avenues such as iTunes, mobile carriers and other diverse and innovative channels."

Jackson is currently on the road with her first tour in seven years, "Rock Witchu," with support form LL Cool J and Donnie Klang. The Live Nation-promoted outing began Sept. 10 in Vancouver and runs through Oct. 22 in Dallas.

Moving forward, Jackson would seem to be a natural fit at Live Nation Artists, which is already home to Jay-Z, Nickelback and Shakira. A Live Nation spokesperson was unavailable for comment on the subject.

A Chance of a Lifetime..An Opportuntiy to See Barack Obama

From the Desk of King D in Miami

Earlier this week, as a Barack Obama supporter, I recieved a special invitation to attend a Women's Rally in Miami this morning. This was an invitation I couldn't refuse, an opportunity to see the next President of the United States. I thought I was doing good by getting there an hour early before the doors were to open and I guess alot of people had the same idea. The line strected for several blocks from the Bank United Center to see Obama at my old alma mater, the University of Miami. It was a typical tropical morning, hot and humid, but everyone was so excited to see Obama, you could have cared less about the sweat running down our faces.

The videos kind of say it all. Myself and about 7,000 other women and men, young and old, cheered, danced and applauded Obama during this event. McCain better be worried. Polls don't always say it all. Finally, Obama is pulling ahead this week after a Republican Convention bounce. The electricity in the arena was so catagious, you couldn't help but be excited about this Presidential candidate and you wanted others to be excited as well. Nothing but smiles around!

Let's go Obama and to everyone else, it's our responsibility to get out there and VOTE!

Brad Pitt donating $100,000 to fight California gay marriage ban

Brad Pitt donating $100,000 to fight California gay marriage ban

The Los Angeles Times is reporting that Brad Pitt is donating $100,000 to fight a November ballot initiative that would outlaw gay marriage in the state. Here's the story:

By TINA DAUNT, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer

Brad Pitt announced Wednesday that he's donating $100,000 to fight California's Proposition 8, a November ballot initiative that would eliminate same-sex couples' right to marry.

"Because no one has the right to deny another their life, even though they disagree with it, because everyone has the right to live the life they so desire if it doesn't harm another and because discrimination has no place in America, my vote will be for equality and against Proposition 8," the actor said in a statement.

Pitt's donation marks the largest thus far to the anti-Prop. 8 campaign by an A-list celebrity.

Political strategist Chad Griffin, who is helping coordinate efforts in the entertainment industry to defeat the controversial initiative, said he is hopeful that the move will prompt others to get involved. He added that Democratic billionaire Ron Burkle has agreed to host a large fundraiser at his home in October to rally the entertainment industry against Prop. 8, which opponents say will take away important benefits such as health insurance and will complicate decision-making related to medical emergencies and other situations in domestic partnerships.

In recent weeks, tens of thousands of dollars -- much of it from outside California -- has been donated to groups on both sides of the issue.

The measure was placed on the ballot after the California Supreme Court invalidated the state's prohibition on same-sex marriage in May

Gay Bashing Near DC Gay Club: Victim on Life Support

Metro Weekly reported the story

The Gay and Lesbian Liaison Unit (GLLU) of the Washington Metropolitan Police Department is reporting that two men from Maryland were attacked during a robbery on the evening of Sunday, Sept. 7, at Eighth and N Streets NW.

According to the GLLU report, the incident was classified as a hate crime ''based upon the victims' actual or perceived sexual orientation,'' and due to the proximity of the attack to Be Bar, a lounge that caters to the gay community, located at 1318 Ninth St. NW, about a block from the attack in D.C.'s Shaw neighborhood.

''A final determination as to whether or not the case will ultimately be classified as a hate/bias crime will be made by the Metropolitan Police Department's Hate/Bias Crimes Coordinator after a complete review of the evidence, facts and circumstances,'' the report states.

Police are reporting that one of the victims, a 23-year-old from Fort Washington, Md., suffered a bruise to his jaw, and was treated and released from a local hospital. The other victim, 37, from Clinton, Md., suffered a laceration to the back of the head and was admitted to a local hospital. As of late Tuesday, Sept. 9, the GLLU reported his condition as ''guarded.''

According to MPD Acting Lt. Brett Parson, who is responsible of all MPD liaison units, including the GLLU, suspects stole a set of car keys and $15 before fleeing in an unknown direction.

Police are on the lookout for ''four black males, between 19-22 years old, 5'9''-6'2'','' who were all wearing blue jeans and T-shirts.

Lamont Joy of St. Louis, Mo., an acquaintance of the 37-year-old victim, confirmed that the victims were headed to Be Bar on the night of the attack to meet friends.

''They never arrived,'' he says.

Joy adds that the hospitalized victim, described by Joy as African-American and gay, was placed on life support at Howard University Hospital.

''They told his mom and his family yesterday that he's not breathing,'' Joy said Sept. 10.

Anyone who has any information about this attack is asked to call the GLLU pager number at 1-877-495-5995.

Kanye arrested @ LAX Airport this morning

Why would Kanye act the fool om a very sad day at a airport of all places. Kanye was arrested.

7 years later: We will not forget 9/11

The September 11 attacks (often referred to as 9/11) were a series of coordinated suicide attacks by al-Qaeda upon the United States on September 11, 2001. On that morning, terrorists affiliated with al-Qaeda hijacked four commercial passenger jet airliners. The hijackers intentionally crashed two of the airliners into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, killing everyone on board and many others working in the building, causing both buildings to collapse within two hours, destroying at least two nearby buildings and damaging others. The hijackers crashed a third airliner into the Pentagon. The fourth plane crashed into a field near Shanksville in rural Somerset County, Pennsylvania, after passengers and members of the flight crew on the fourth aircraft attempted to retake control of their plane, which was heading for Washington, D.C. There are no known survivors from any of the flights.

Excluding the 19 hijackers, 2,974 people died in the attacks. Another 24 are missing and presumed dead. The overwhelming majority of casualties were civilians, including nationals of over 90 different countries. In addition, the death of at least one person from lung disease was ruled by a medical examiner to be a result of exposure to dust from the World Trade Center's collapse, as rescue and recovery workers were exposed to airborne contaminants following the buildings' collapse.

The United States responded to the attacks by declaring a War on Terrorism, launching an invasion of Afghanistan to depose the Taliban, who had harbored al-Qaeda terrorists, and enacting the USA PATRIOT Act. Many other nations also strengthened their anti-terrorism legislation and expanded law enforcement powers. Stock exchanges closed for almost a week, and posted enormous losses upon reopening, especially in the airline and insurance industries. The economy of Lower Manhattan ground to a halt, as billions of dollars in office space was damaged or destroyed.

The damage to the Pentagon was cleared and repaired within a year, and a small memorial was built on the site. Rebuilding the World Trade Center site has proven more difficult, with controversy over possible designs as well as the pace of construction. Construction delays, revised cost estimates, security concerns, and public criticism have all lead to significant changes and delays to the final plans in rebuilding the complex.

Attacks
Early in the morning on September 11, 2001, nineteen hijackers took control of four commercial airliners en route to San Francisco and Los Angeles from Boston, Newark, and Washington (Washington Dulles International Airport). The hijackers flew two of the airliners, American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175, into the North and South Towers of the World Trade Center. Another group of hijackers flew American Airlines Flight 77 into the Pentagon. A fourth flight, United Airlines Flight 93, whose ultimate target was either the U.S. Capitol building or the White House, crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

During the hijacking of the airplanes, the hijackers used box cutters to kill passengers and crew members, but some passengers were able to make phone calls using the cabin airphone service and mobile phones. They reported that several hijackers were aboard each plane. The hijackers had reportedly taken control of the aircraft by using knives and box-cutter knives to kill flight attendants and at least one pilot or passenger, including the captain of Flight 11, John Ogonowski. The 9/11 Commission established that two of the hijackers had recently purchased Leatherman multi-function hand tools. Some form of noxious chemical spray, such as tear gas or pepper spray, was reported to have been used on American 11 and United 175 to keep passengers out of the first-class cabin.A flight attendant on Flight 11, a passenger on Flight 175, and passengers on Flight 93 mentioned that the hijackers had bombs, but one of the passengers also mentioned he thought the bombs were fake. No traces of explosives were found at the crash sites. The 9/11 Commission Report believed the bombs were probably fake.

On United Airlines Flight 93, black box recordings revealed that crew and passengers attempted to seize control of the plane from the hijackers after learning through phone calls that similarly hijacked planes had been crashed into buildings that morning.According to the transcript of Flight 93's recorder, one of the hijackers gave the order to roll the plane once it became evident that they would lose control of the plane to the passengers.Soon afterward, the aircraft crashed into a field near Shanksville in Stonycreek Township, Somerset County, Pennsylvania, at 10:03:11 a.m. local time (14:03:11 UTC). Al-Qaeda leader Khalid Sheikh Mohammed mentioned in a 2002 interview with Yosri Fouda, an al Jazeera journalist, that Flight 93's target was the United States Capitol, which was given the code name "the Faculty of Law".

Three buildings in the World Trade Center Complex collapsed due to structural failure on the day of the attack. The south tower (2 WTC) fell at approximately 9:59 a.m., after burning for 56 minutes in a fire caused by the impact of United Airlines Flight 175.The north tower (1 WTC) collapsed at 10:28 a.m., after burning for approximately 102 minutes. When the north tower collapsed, debris heavily damaged the nearby 7 World Trade Center (7 WTC) building. Its structural integrity was further compromised by fires, and the building collapsed later in the day at 5:20 p.m.

The attacks created widespread confusion among news organizations and air traffic controllers across the United States. All international civilian air traffic was banned from landing on US soil for three days.Aircraft already in flight were either turned back or redirected to airports in Canada or Mexico. News sources aired unconfirmed and often contradictory reports throughout the day. One of the most prevalent of these reported that a car bomb had been detonated at the U.S. State Department's headquarters in Washington, D.C. Soon after reporting for the first time on the Pentagon crash, CNN and other media also briefly reported that a fire had broken out on the Washington Mall.Another report went out on the AP wire, claiming that a Delta Air Lines airliner—Flight 1989—had been hijacked. This report, too, turned out to be in error; the plane was briefly thought to represent a hijack risk, but it responded to controllers and landed safely in Cleveland, Ohio.

Casualties
There were 2,974 fatalities, excluding the 19 hijackers: 246 on the four planes (from which there were no survivors), 2,603 in New York City in the towers and on the ground, and 125 at the Pentagon. An additional 24 people remain listed as missing. All of the fatalities in the attacks were civilians except for 55 military personnel killed at the Pentagon. More than 90 countries lost citizens in the attacks on the World Trade Center.

NIST estimated that approximately 17,400 civilians were in the World Trade Center complex at the time of the attacks, while turnstile counts from the Port Authority suggest that 14,154 people were typically in the Twin Towers by 8:45 a.m. The vast majority of people below the impact zone safely evacuated the buildings, along with 18 individuals who were in the impact zone in the south tower. 1,366 people died who were at or above the floors of impact in the North Tower. According to the Commission Report, hundreds were killed instantly by the impact, while the rest were trapped and died after the tower collapsed. As many as 600 people were killed instantly or were trapped at or above the floors of impact in the South Tower.

At least 200 people jumped to their deaths from the burning towers (as depicted in the photograph "The Falling Man"), landing on the streets and rooftops of adjacent buildings hundreds of feet below. Some of the occupants of each tower above its point of impact made their way upward toward the roof in hope of helicopter rescue, but the roof access doors were locked. No plan existed for helicopter rescues, and on September 11, the thick smoke and intense heat would have prevented helicopters from conducting rescues.

A total of 411 emergency workers who responded to the scene died as they attempted to implement rescue and fire suppression efforts. The New York City Fire Department (FDNY) lost 341 firefighters and 2 FDNY paramedics.[40] The New York City Police Department lost 23 officers. The Port Authority Police Department lost 37 officers.Private EMS units lost 8 additional EMTs and paramedics.

Cantor Fitzgerald L.P., an investment bank on the 101st–105th floors of One World Trade Center, lost 658 employees, considerably more than any other employer. Marsh Inc., located immediately below Cantor Fitzgerald on floors 93–101 (the location of Flight 11's impact), lost 295 employees, and 175 employees of Aon Corporation were killed. After New York, New Jersey was the hardest hit state, with the city of Hoboken sustaining the most fatalities.

Weeks after the attack, the estimated death toll was over 6,000.The city was only able to identify remains for approximately 1,600 of the victims at the World Trade Center. The medical examiner's office also collected "about 10,000 unidentified bone and tissue fragments that cannot be matched to the list of the dead."[49] Bone fragments were still being found in 2006 as workers were preparing to demolish the damaged Deutsche Bank Building.

Damage

The Pentagon damaged by fire and partially collapsed. In addition to the 110-floor Twin Towers of the World Trade Center itself, numerous other buildings at the World Trade Center site were destroyed or badly damaged, including 7 World Trade Center, 6 World Trade Center, 5 World Trade Center, 4 World Trade Center, the Marriott World Trade Center, and the World Financial Center complex and St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. The Deutsche Bank Building across Liberty Street from the World Trade Center complex was later condemned due to the uninhabitable, toxic conditions inside the office tower, and is undergoing deconstruction. The Borough of Manhattan Community College's Fiterman Hall at 30 West Broadway was also condemned due to extensive damage in the attacks, and is slated for deconstruction.Other neighboring buildings including 90 West Street and the Verizon Building suffered major damage, but have since been restored.World Financial Center buildings, One Liberty Plaza, the Millenium Hilton, and 90 Church Street had moderate damage. Communications equipment atop the North Tower, including broadcast radio, television and two-way radio antenna towers were also destroyed, but media stations were quickly able to reroute signals and resume broadcasts. In Arlington County, a portion of the Pentagon was severely damaged by fire and one section of the building collapsed.

Rescue and recovery

An injured victim of the Pentagon attack is evacuatedMain article: Rescue and recovery effort after the September 11, 2001 attacks
The Fire Department of New York City (FDNY) quickly deployed 200 units (half of the department) to the site, whose efforts were supplemented by numerous off-duty firefighters and EMTs.The New York Police Department (NYPD) sent Emergency Service Units (ESU) and other police personnel.During the emergency response, FDNY commanders, the NYPD, and the Port Authority police had limited ability to share information and coordinate their efforts. The NYPD, FDNY, and Port Authority police did redundant searches for civilians, rather than coordinate efforts among the agencies. As conditions deteriorated, the NYPD received information from its helicopters, and were able to pass along evacuation orders that allowed most of its officers to safely evacuate before the buildings collapsed. However, radio communications between the NYPD and FDNY were incompatible and the information did not get to FDNY commanders. After the first tower collapsed, FDNY commanders experienced difficulties communicating evacuation orders to firefighters inside the towers due to malfunctioning radio repeater systems in the World Trade Center. 9-1-1 dispatchers also received information from callers that was not passed along. Within hours of the attack, a massive search and rescue operation was launched. Rescue and recovery efforts took months to complete.

Part 3

part 4

--Has anyone been watchin " I want to Work for Diddy" i am not a big reality buff but i love it.lol i missed the last 2 episodes which i have to watch sometime this weekend. Also have to watch ANTM even though i have never gotten into it and the only reason i am is due to Isis the transgender who is from Prince Georges County, Maryland.

--Um i think i want my EX back even though he would love and want that. I have also made it a rule never to go back with an ex because i feel as if it would be goin backwards and not forward. Obvisiously people are exs for various reasons so i dont know what the hell to do. should i break a promise to myself due to the fact that deep down someway i know it was meant to be and maybe he actually really was the "1". The one i was ashamed to tell my best friend about because i didnt want to hear the truth from him and is in part due to why we havent spoken in a year.

--Wow i have never been so open before on the blog about my personal life, i kinda see why people blog i guess it can be thearpy, but then i always said i lived a boring life and who want to here about my life.I guess i fear so much about what people will think and say if i open up and let people in. Hey i am a cancer its my nature to be closed but i am tryin my best to let people in. I crave to be loved and i have been loved by people and i allow my actions to get the best of me and not allow myself to love back fully cause i was in my shell and didnt want to feel vulerable. not to say i never loved the people i have been wit, i truly have but i will admit i did alot of hurtful things to do. My life has truly been a rollercoaster most of the things that have gone on wit me is to a degree at my own doing lookin back on life, and other times i allowed to be naive, used and abused. But enough for now i will share more next week.

Second Half of Pride in “A”…..Things got a little bit crazy!

From the Desk of King D in Miami

Aiight…aiight…so where did I leave off…..oh, we are on Saturday of Black Pride in Atlanta. Saturday was a very busy day. It seems everyone had arrived to the “A” by now; the boys for Pride Weekend, the DragonCon folks, and also the Clemson and Alabama fans who came to watch the game. ROLL TIDE! I got a rude awakening from them on Saturday morning, while EPSN Game was being televised in Olympic Park. I was on the 54th floor of the Westin and them B’s were loud. So I decided to get up and head to my favorite spot in Atlanta, Six Flags Over Georgia. It was relatively empty but I had a great time. You have to check it out, when you are in the “A” and check out their new roller coaster Goliath. It will put yo balls in your throat, with that first drop. Quite a few of the family were there. Wassup to the hot “lipstick” lesbians from Memphis, ya’ll had me crackin’ up in line.

After the park I headed back to hotel to put on my face to go stand around the mall at Lenox. The best thing about this mall is not all the punks you see, not buying a thing, just gawking at each other, but the expression of the straight people after seeing all the sissies in one place. A couple of years ago, I once saw a extremely handsome straight man walk into the mall, his eyes get BIG, and instantly did a B-line to the door. It is very shocking to see, if you have never seen a lot of gay people in one place. I am sorry I didn’t have a chance to take pictures, but take my word for it, it was a giant fashion show and a sight to see. Saturday night was 708. Everyone has heard of 708, so I won’t elaborate. Check out my pictures. They were taken kind of early in the evening. Keep in mind this club gets pack, drinks are not that expensive, and you’ll love the eye candy.

Sunday….the last day in the “A”. After a long night with my friends…Sunday is reserved for the park. I arrived to the park around 4pm and all I can say is “WOW”! I have been to Piedmont Park many of times during Prides in the past. This one was not much different, a lot of boys in the park, different shapes and sizes. You have there girls who were nothing but bikini underwear to the park. You have the girls who wear pink pumps and it is just a mess. You have the different drill teams from the South, Memphis, Bama, etc doing their thing. The dudes selling alcohol out of coolers for $5 (what a bargain). Mostly people just stand around, walk around the lake, take pictures, and talk. It was a great Sunday never the less, and a great end to the weekend.

My final thoughts….Atlanta was Atlanta this year……but it was a little different than years past for me. After several disastrous Prides this year, I left Atlanta feeling fuzzy inside. Quite a few promoters in Miami, NYC, Los Angeles, Seattle, and DC, have quite a bit to learn about throwing a successful Pride event. Atlanta should be their model to having a successful event, large crowds, and everyone being a happy camper. It is sad to read in local papers across the country, numerous blogs, and websites, about organizers taking advantage of public funds, accusations of unethical conduct, and the eventual cancellations of events/Prides which could really benefit our community. A lot of first timers to Prides, would not usually have access to HIV/AIDS Prevention and Education materials, unlimited supply of condoms, the opportunity to take a HIV test, or be able to fellowship with the “family” and express themselves for a few short days and be “themselves”. That is what Pride is about and this year 2008, I think some of us lost sight of that. Okay I am done preaching, but thanks Atlanta for restoring my faith in Black Prides for the next coming year 2009. There are a few more Prides left in the year, so lets step up and make sure we are living up to the true meaning of “Pride”

Black Pride Weekend in the “A”…Left me feeling all fuzzy inside!

From the Desk of King D in Miami

I have been attending Black Pride in Atlanta for the past 10 years, so I know what to expect, where to go, where not to go, etc, etc, etc. This Atlanta trip was a little different for me. Considering all the disastrous prides of the summer, from over-priced Sizzle in Miami to the cancellation of Pride in the City in Brooklyn; I was a little bit skeptical of what to expect this time around. But I have to say as I boarded my plane for home in Miami this past Monday, I couldn’t help but to smile. Atlanta left feeling all fuzzy inside. My weekend started off on Thursday in Atlanta-Hartsfield airport which I knew would set the tone for the weekend. And all I can say is DAMN, as I retrieved my luggage from the Delta carousel in the South Terminal. The boys, or should I say MEN were out in full force; big ones, tall ones, skinny ones, muscle ones, all in different shapes and sizes. Now this is what Pride should be about, I thought to myself. Hi!, to the sexy boy from Pittsburgh, sorry we were not able catch up during the weekend. I still have your number though!

I settled into the Westin hotel, which was full of the homosexual persuasion, which was great. During Pride weekend, there were also other events happening such as DragonCon, a fantasy lovers convention, and Clemson-Alabama fans were also in house. There looked a little puzzled by all the half dressed dudes and females wearing next to nothing. You know how we do it! Thursday night was a little interesting. Myself and a few other friends, got the night started off early ,because we knew the lines would be long. I headed to the legendary Bulldogs on Peachtree St. The line was not too terribly long when we arrived. But when we left the line was down the block, with even more people in the adjacent parking lot. Check out the pictures and you will see what I mean. Believe it or not, this was my first time actually inside Bulldogs; usually I would hang outside like everyone else. To my amazement the cover was only $5 (Dwight Powell, could learn from this) Only thing I can complain about was that is was extremely hot in the club. Ya’ll know a lot of black people make a lot of heat. But the music was good, the fellas were sexy and the crowd was an older crowd, no prancing queens anywhere. So it fit me well. They even had Obama’s speech playing on the patio for those who wanted to check it out.

That was not the only club we went too Thursday night. We also went to the Rooftop party at the Super 8. And honey all I can say is HOT BOX. That was my, my friends, the guys standing next to my friends’ chief complaint. I was drenched in sweat by the time we left and I wasn’t even dancing. Luckily they had a patio overlooking the Atlanta skyline, which was great, and allowed for some relief from the sauna that was taking place inside. Music was good, and for the life of me, the happiest moment of the night is when they told me free cocktails. I was as happy as a lark. And drunk as a skunk. Again, Dwight Powell could learn from this. Even though I was sweatier than a 5k runner, I had a good time regardless. If the boys would have taken off any more clothes in the spot, we would have been at a sex party. Opps, did I say that!

Friday was the norm for me. I strolled through Lenox to pick up a few items and I just chilled out. More people had arrived to the Westin, the Renaissance and the “W”. Familiar faces, some not familiar, but a lot of HOT fellas. The eye candy was enough to make anyone’s mouth water. Oh, let me give a shout out to James from Las Vegas, boy you were sexy. Call me!

Friday night was another fun night. It was at a Club Trademark, formerly the Palace, for you old schoolers. I have always like this club, but I am not too fond of the area. Gives you that Club Boi feel in Miami. But there had 3 levels, admission was $20, which was expected. We arrived early to catch the drag show which was okay. But around 11pm, the club went from about 200 people to about 2500 people in a matter for a couple of hours. It was PACKED. You couldn’t even snap your fingers in the air without hitting someone. It was really a mess. The music was good, but it was extremely crowded and again hot like a sauna. I don’t know why Black clubs can’t invest in a quality air-conditioning unit but whatever. I had a great time regardless, drink were somewhat reasonable, so no complaints. Day Two of Black Pride Atlanta going off without a hitch. Okay, next blog entry I will tell you about Saturday and Sunday…and if you can’t tell from the pictures, HONEY, it was a sure-fire mess (but in a good way)….hit ya’ll up soon!
